Academy Sports + Outdoors adds first Benton store; brings 125 new jobs
KATY, TEXAS (May 22, 2015) – Academy, Ltd. (d/b/a Academy Sports + Outdoors), a premier
sports, outdoor and lifestyle retailer committed to offering everyday low prices, today opens its
first store in the Benton area and seventh store in the state. The 63,000 square foot store brings
approximately 125 new jobs to the community and is located at 20790 I-30 North.
“Academy Sports + Outdoors is excited to continue our expansion in the state of Arkansas with
the opening of our new store in the Benton area,” said Gabe Thornton, Academy Sports +

Customers in the Benton area can expect to find everyday low prices, a broad assortment of
quality hunting, fishing, sports, recreation and leisure products, athletic and casual footwear and
apparel, along with exceptional customer service. This store will provide services including
scope mounting, bore sighting, line winding/spooling, propane exchange, racquet stringing and
sells hunting and fishing licenses.
Prior to opening, the store donated $100 Academy Sports + Outdoors gift cards to 15 members
of the Boys and Girls Club of Saline County and 15 members of the Boys & Girls Club of Bryant
to be the store’s first customers and shop for anything they like during this private shopping
event.
On Friday, May 29, the Benton community is invited to join in for a three-day grand opening
celebration. The free event includes giveaways, interactive demonstrations by brands sold at
Academy Sports + Outdoors, games for the whole family, and more. In addition to the numerous
events are line up and wins for Academy mystery gift cards, free Under Armour T-Shirts and
Berkley tackle bags. Customers will have a chance to interact with Steve “Wildman” Wilson
Saturday from 10-11:30 am and Sunday from 1-4 pm.
