Academy Sports + Outdoors opens first stores in Burlington and Wilmington, N.C.

Both new stores bring 100 new jobs to their respective community

KATY, TEXAS (November 17, 2017) - Academy, Ltd. (d/b/a Academy Sports + Outdoors), a premier sports, outdoor and recreation lifestyle retailer committed to offering everyday low prices, opened its first stores in Wilmington and Burlington. Both stores are approximately 63,000 square feet and bring over 100 new jobs to their respective communities.

“We couldn’t be more excited to open our ninth and tenth North Carolina locations on the same day and celebrate both communities,” said Sam Johnson, Academy Sports + Outdoors’ executive vice president of retail operations. “Whether you’re taking the kids for their first hunt or cheering them on under Friday night lights, our wide range of quality products and brands will help you start any outdoor adventure for less.”

Customers can expect to find a wide range of quality products from brands such as Nike, Under Armour, Adidas, YETI, and Columbia. No matter their skill level, Academy will help customers thrive by offering everyday low prices on hunting, fishing and camping equipment, patio sets, barbecue grills, along with sports and recreation products. Customers will find services such as scope mounting, bore sighting, line winding/spooling, propane exchange, golf club trade-in, CO2 refills, racquet stringing, assembly and delivery, and the ability to purchase hunting and fishing licenses.

Prior to the grand opening, each store partnered with their local YMCA to donate $100 Academy Sports + Outdoors shopping sprees to 30 local children to shop for anything they wanted while accompanied by Academy team members.

Beginning today, the communities are invited to the stores’ two-day grand opening celebrations. The free events includes giveaways, interactive demonstrations by brands sold at Academy Sports + Outdoors, games for the whole family, and much more. There will be Academy gift card giveaways, free Academy t-shirts, and fishing for the kids in the Shakespeare catch tank.
