Academy Sports + Outdoors opens new Lubbock, TX store; brings 100 new jobs to the area
KATY, TEXAS (August 26, 2016) – Academy, Ltd. (d/b/a Academy Sports + Outdoors), a
premier sports, outdoor and lifestyle retailer committed to offering everyday low prices, today
opened its second store in Lubbock, TX located at 11445 Quaker Ave. The store is over 62,000
square feet and brings over 100 new jobs to the community.
“Academy Sports + Outdoors is very excited to continue expanding in our home state with a
new and convenient location in Lubbock,” said Gabe Thornton, Academy Sports + Outdoors’

Lubbock customers can expect to find the same everyday low prices and unique product
assortment as the existing Lubbock store. It will carry hunting, fishing, sports, recreation and
leisure products, athletic and casual footwear and apparel, along with exceptional customer
service. Customers will also find the same services such as scope mounting, bore sighting, line
winding/spooling, propane exchange, racquet stringing and ability to purchase hunting and
fishing licenses.
Prior to opening, the store donated $100 Academy Sports + Outdoors gift cards to 30 members
of nearby Livermore YWCA of Lubbock to be the store’s first customers and shop for anything
they wanted during a private shopping event.
Beginning August 26, the Lubbock community is invited to join in for a three-day grand opening
celebration. The free event includes giveaways, interactive demonstrations by brands sold at
Academy Sports + Outdoors, games for the whole family, and more. In addition to the numerous
events are line up and wins for Academy mystery gift cards, free Under Armour T-Shirts and up
to $50 towards the purchase of Columbia product.
