Academy Sports + Outdoors opens first store in Florence, AL

The store will mark Academy’s fourth Huntsville-area location and bring 100 new jobs

KATY, TEXAS (May 26, 2017) – Academy, Ltd. (d/b/a Academy Sports + Outdoors), a sports, outdoor and recreation lifestyle retail store, dedicated to making it easier for everyone to enjoy more sports and outdoors, opened its first store in Florence, Ala., located at 113 Cox Creek Parkway South. The store is over 62,000 square feet and brings around 100 new jobs to the community.

“The Florence community’s passion for sports and outdoors makes the city a great location for Academy,” said Sam Johnson, Academy Sports + Outdoors’ executive vice president of retail operations. “We are excited to help local customers thrive by providing excellent customer service and offering them the best brands at affordable prices.”

Customers can expect to find a wide range of quality products from brands such as Costa, Carhartt, Under Armour, Columbia, Nike and YETI. No matter their skill level, Academy will help customers thrive by offering everyday low prices on hunting, fishing and camping equipment, patio sets, barbecue grills, along with sports and recreation products. Similar to the Huntsvillearea locations, customers will find services such as scope mounting, bore sighting, line winding/spooling, propane exchange, golf club trade-in, CO2 refills, racquet stringing, assembly and delivery, and the ability to purchase hunting and fishing licenses.

Prior to the grand opening, the store donated $100 shopping sprees to 30 members of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Shoals to shop for anything they wanted while accompanied by Academy team members.

Beginning today, the community is invited to the store’s two-day grand opening celebration. The free event includes giveaways, interactive demonstrations by brands sold at Academy Sports + Outdoors, games for the whole family and much more. There will be Academy mystery gift card giveaways, free Academy t-shirts, and fishing for the kids in the Shakespeare catch tank.
